Google’s Mountain View facility, known as Googleplex, is the iconic office that gave Google its reputation for innovation. It combines communal spaces and private work areas, giving employees access to everything from lounges with pool tables and video games to lap pools, fitness centers and yoga studios. Googleplex even has its own nap pods so employees can get some rest when they’re feeling drained. Google also has gardens, a bee-keeping area and kitchens where they provide free meals for employees at a cost of millions per year. All of these perks– including outdoor tennis courts, picturesque sculpture gardens and free laundry, hair-styling and a medical clinic on site– make working at Google one of the best jobs in the world. But it cost Google a lot of money to develop its Mountain View campus into this oasis for tech– about $3 billion, actually.
But Google HQ is innovative, unique and a leader in the world of tech. It was all designed by architect Clive Wilkinson, who set up Google’s image as a colorful, playful company that’s all about working together and giving employees enough space and time to flourish creatively. Google is even spending billions to build upon their Mountain View facility and expand into San Jose and Bay View. They’re focusing on being environmentally friendly, encouraging use of Electric Vehicles and Google Bikes– or gBikes– to get around campus. Ready for a look at one of the world’s most creative tech offices? Then click play and let’s explore Googleplex.
