First MLB team extends safety net to foul pole

The Chicago White Sox are officially the first club in Major League Baseball to implement netting that extends all the way to the foul poles. Due to a rash of recent severe injuries at games, especially involving young fans, some teams are trying to make attending the ballpark a safer experience. Most teams have safety netting that goes to the end of the dugout but some feel it isn’t enough while others are heavily against it. In the quarterfinal of the U.S. Open Cup, MLS squad Atlanta United took out USL championship side St. Louis FC winning 2-0 to advance to the semifinals where they play Orlando City SC in August.
